Wi-Fi in Schools

Over the last few years there has been a huge increase in the number of schools in the UK that have installed wireless computer networks such as Wi-Fi or WLAN, and more and more schools are following the trend of installing wireless communications within the school building. The benefit of a Wi-Fi system for the schools is undoubted in that it offers greater flexibility for the children and teachers, and is generally cheaper to install. However we feel that this benefit is far out weighed by the potential risk of exposing children to excessive levels of microwave radiation.

There has been a number of scientific studies published that outline the concerns with wireless technologies and their impact on our health, and most importantly to children. Whilst there is doubt and concern about the safety of Wi-Fi in our schools, we feel that all schools should adopt a precautionary principle and refrain from using any wireless technology within the school.

Wireless communication is now a fact of life and a large number of households will have technology within their homes that use wireless, that is their choice. However there are many people who choose to take a precautionary principle and not use wireless devices. In a school that uses Wi-Fi, children are involuntarily exposed to microwave radiation and have no say about this exposure. Schools are responsible for providing a safe environment for all children.

If you are a parent, head-teacher or school staff and have a concern about Wi-Fi in school then please contact us. We offer EMF School Surveys which will measure the levels of electromagnetic radiation around the school. We can pinpoint any hot-spot areas, and advise any simple remedial action needed to lower the exposure of all children and staff at the school.

If you would like a quote for an EMF School Survey please contact us at: survey@invisiblehazards.co.uk  or 0845 0510371.

A donation from every survey is made to the 'Children With Leukaemia' charity.
